EITB Nahieran :

Search engines and knowledge management

Through its Nahieran platform, the EITB (public broadcasting corporation of the Basque Autonomous Community) offers the possibility of watching and listening to audiovisual content at any time, so that users can access their favourite series or content as they wish and whenever it suits them. The content on the Nahieran platform is in two languages, but not symmetrically available, so the EITB asked us to improve the search engine so as to make content available with proper access. So we simplified content access, improved user experience and implemented various innovative developments and functionalities to manage multilinguality.

Overview

Challenge

In the project we addressed the following technological challenges:

To run a morphology-based bilingual search in Basque and Spanish.
To be able to run a cross-language search in both Basque and Spanish.
In other words, despite running a search in Basque, content can be returned in Spanish too, and vice versa.
To automatically detect time expressions to look for information.
An autocomplete function of categorized searches.
Spell checking of searches.
Smart criteria to specify order of search hits (importance, date, etc.).

Collaboration

We worked in collaboration with the EITB’s Innovation and Strategy directorate and technical department to specify search engine functionalities, manage development and drive forward integration work.
