Audiovisual media have new needs in the digitization era. To attract viewers and listeners, automatic dubbing and turning written Internet articles into podcasts have become essential. In this project speech synthesis systems have been created for Goiena and NAIZ irratia so that journalistic texts can be read. The speech synthesis systems created read text with the voice of the newsreaders of these media.

Overview
Audiovisual media have new needs in the digitization era. To attract viewers and listeners, automatic dubbing and turning written Internet articles into podcasts have become essential. In this project speech synthesis systems have been created for Goiena and NAIZ irratia so that journalistic texts can be read. The speech synthesis systems created read text with the voice of the newsreaders of these media.
Challenge
Journalistic texts tend to be complex and journalists are specially trained to read them. Taking this into consideration a big challenge facing this project was to obtain recordings by professionals and to produce a synthesis system that would properly imitate their prosody and style.
Collaboration
This project was run in collaboration with Goiena and NAIZ Irratia.
Result
The speech synthesis systems achieved have high quality voices and express the journalistic speaking style well.
Another similar project has been run within the Votz project: speech synthesis for two dialects of Occitan.
